NOW TO CHOOSE!

'I consider your thighs'
by Vivian Hansen

explores the lusty physicality of love between a
woman and a man... close up.

OR…

'Ingest' by Lisa Murphy Lamb

finds two lovers in a park by a playground but lost in each other's face, jaw, chin and thinking of an august bed.
(non gendered)

PAIRED WITH…

Borie de Maurel “Charivari”
(Languedoc, France) $22

Winemaker Michel Escande could easily pass for a smiling Bacchus. His range of wines are mainly soulful blends of the classic Mediterranean grape varieties, but here is a playful wine of one of his favourite grapes; 100% Grenache. A lively, light-bodied red but with Marilyn curves nonetheless. “Charivari” speaks to Michel's nautical background as well as to his love of unbridled pleasures! Be warned: Borie de Maurel’s website is “vini-porn”

'Twin Flames' by Cobra Collins
A Friendship Poem:

...For the sake of our full moon hearts/let’s rest here for awhile/hold each and forget this lone wolf howl/Turn our backs on a world set ablaze..

PAIRED WITH…

Viñedos Singulares Verdejo
“Afortunado” (Rueda, Spain) $22

Although this wine comes from NW Spain, the family who makes it is based in Catalonia. The Catalans take as theirs the symbol of the donkey (“Afortunado”or The Lucky One) as a celebration of their local breed (“ruc català,”) which also embodies the renowned Catalan quality of stubbornness and steadfastness. Solidarity in culture, solidarity in friendship…

A dry white, not a hint of oakiness made from the Verdejo grape from the region of Rueda.

'After Dinner'
by Richard Harrison:

If you are in love, buy this pairing. Trust us. It will feel like a sudden surge of love and reading like a single mouthful of wine at once.

PAIRED WITH…

Nicolas Paget Touraine Rouge “Jajavanaise” (Loire Valley, France) $27

This is a blend based on the Cabernet Franc grape which in this region produces a juicy medium-bodied dry red. The name comes from the lyrics to Serge Gainsbourg’s song, Javanaise, which finishes:

"Whether you admit it or not
As we danced the Javanaise,
We loved each other
For the time of one song."

Listen to Serge’s version, or if “ne vous déplaise”, try Madeleine Peyroux’s version (still sadly beautiful…)

'Rime Ice': A Valentine" by Pamela Medland for a family member

...If I could send you sparkling snow I would,/a piece of clear blue sky, an icicle./Instead, I send warm wishes and a kiss...

PAIRED WITH…

Weingut Brand Riesling Trocken (Pfalz, Germany) $29 (1-litre bottle)

The Brand Brothers (Daniel and Jonas) are fifth-generation winemakers, and part of the very youthful and exciting contemporary German wine scene. This is a DRY Riesling, and is family-sized for sharing (or not). The brothers vineyard work and winemaking are influenced by the “natural” wine approach, and their wines come across as crystalline and pure.

'Confession' by Moni Brar:

A 'HEY, THERE, I'D LIKE TO GET SOMETHING STARTED' poem where confessions are revealed

PAIRED WITH…

Clos du Gravillas “Jour de Teuf” Muscat Pét-Nat (Languedoc, France) $33

This fizz poses abundant questions and possibilities! The name is a Parisian street slang re-work of “Jour de Fête”, and it conjures up the brilliant 1960’s film of this name by the visionary Jacques Tati. Slight sweetness, good fizz, with a great sense of humour. An unexpected conversation starter (this wine has so many stories, you might have to start with a sip, then dinner…) The Muscat grape flavours are unmistakably (and irresistibly) hedonistic. Watch the film, drink the wine and make the day/night a Jour de Teuf!
