New Tasting Series: The Metro Mixtape

by Al Drinkle

We’ve launched a new tasting series called “The Metro Mixtape”, and we think that it’s a great idea even though it’s not exactly self-explanatory. Everyone at Metrovino is insatiably obsessed with wine, and we’ve noticed that tastings with narrow thematic parameters can sometimes bridle our seething enthusiasm. Speaking for the entire crew here, our dream tasting would be catalyzed by somebody asking,

“You there, moonstruck wine fanatic! You’ve devoted your life to the veneration of Bacchus and applied your mind and palate to the academic discipline of the vine! I therefore commission you to pick six or seven bottles that you find to be amongst the most fascinating and exciting wines on the planet - those whose virtues fuel your indefatigable love of the discipline; those whose impossible beauty haunt your dreams and stir your soul; those whose merits outstrip the meagre pecuniary rewards of your trade!

Seduce my palate with treasures that, due to obscurity or lavish price tags, have previously eluded me! Regale me with stories of the breathtaking environs from whence they came and the tenacious viticultural heroes who brought them to fruition!”

Nobody’s asked this of us yet, but we’re proceeding anyway. In other words, instead of limiting ourselves to a specific grape variety, region or other similarly banal themes, we’ll be tasting and discussing intrinsically meaningful wines whose primary common thread is how inspiring they are to us.

Eva is handling the first round, selecting and sharing bottles that are saturated with intrigue. She’s in possession of one of the most informed and thoughtful wine minds of anybody that I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the last 15 years, and she’s got an incredible evening planned for you.

SIMPLY PUT, THIS IS THE MOST EXCITING TASTING THAT WE’RE OFFERING THIS YEAR, BUT THE FACT THAT THERE ARE STILL TICKETS AVAILABLE WOULD INDICATE THAT WE’VE FAILED TO PROMOTE IT EFFECTIVELY.

We’re making up for that now, and I urge you not to miss out on this unique and exciting event.
